How we're supporting the ongoing fight for racial equality
At The Fire Station, we believe it is essential to recognize the historical significance of Juneteenth and actively support the ongoing fight for racial equality.
Cannabis prohibition has had a disproportionate impact on communities of color, contributing to social and economic disparities in several ways.
Addressing these disparities requires intentional action, including expungement of past convictions, reinvestment in affected communities, and implementing social equity programs.
Prioritizing social equity for all
The Fire Station Cannabis Co. (TFS) achieved gold-level status in the Michigan Cannabis Regulatory Agency’s (CRA) Social Equity All-Star program. TFS had to meet the CRA’s criteria to receive this prestigious status and submit their social equity, corporate spend, and community reinvestment plans for approval.
TFS is one of nine cannabis businesses within the State of Michigan to receive this status, and the second in the Upper Peninsula.
Major components of this plan that directly work to counteract these disparities include:
- Scholarships with Northern Michigan University and Lake Superior State University, with priority to individuals who are from disproportionately impacted communities.
- A form on the TFS Cares page where individuals can apply for: State and local license application fee support; legal consulting and legal expense support; marijuana-related conviction expungement assistance; and social equity mentorship
- Membership and support for the Minority Cannabis Business Association
- Requirement for all employees to complete a Diversity in the Workplace training upon hire.
Hosting our first-ever expungement clinic
The Fire Station will be hosting its first ever Expungement Clinic on October 13, 2023 in partnership with the Great Lakes Expungement Network.
More information on this event will be released in summer 2023.
Giving back to those affected by cannabis prohibition
