Ingredients
- 1 cup of high-quality extra virgin olive oil
7-10 grams of cannabis flower (you can adjust this based on your desired potency)
Equipment
- Baking sheet
- Parchment paper
- Saucepan or double boiler
- Cheesecloth
- Glass jar for storage
Directions
Decarboxylate the Cannabis: To activate the THC in your cannabis, you’ll need to decarboxylate it. Start by preheating your oven to 245°F (120°C). Break the cannabis flower into small pieces (not too finely ground) and spread it evenly on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake for 30-40 minutes, gently stirring every 10 minutes to ensure even heating. Once it’s golden brown, remove it from the oven and let it cool.
Infuse the Olive Oil: In a saucepan or double boiler, combine the decarboxylated cannabis and olive oil. Keep the heat low to prevent burning (between 160-200°F). Allow the mixture to simmer gently for 2-3 hours, stirring occasionally to ensure the cannabis is well-distributed. This slow infusion process will allow the cannabinoids to fully bind with the fat in the oil.
Strain the Oil: Once infused, remove the oil from the heat and let it cool slightly. Place cheesecloth over a fine mesh strainer and strain the oil into a clean glass jar, making sure to squeeze out as much oil as possible from the cannabis. Discard the leftover plant material.
Store Your Infused Oil: Store the infused olive oil in an airtight jar in a cool, dark place. It should last up to two months, and you can use it in any recipe that calls for olive oil—just remember to go slow with dosages to avoid overconsumption!
