Whether you’re cozying up for a movie night or exploring the winter wonderland, cannabis can add an extra layer of fun and creativity to the festivities. At The Fire Station, we’re here to help you make the most of the season with a little added spark. So, here are five cannabis-friendly activities that are sure to lift your spirits and bring warmth to your holiday season.

1. Movie Marathon: Cozy Up with your favorite buds

Nothing says holiday relaxation like a good movie marathon with some of your favorite buds—both the herbal kind and your friends. Picture this: the lights dimmed, soft blankets, and the smell of freshly popped popcorn in the air—along with the faint aroma of your favorite strain. Whether you’re gathered with a few close friends or are flying solo, adding a touch of cannabis can elevate the entire movie experience. For a truly immersive holiday experience, consider curating a cannabis-themed holiday movie lineup. A few recommendations to get started include:

The Night Before: a hilarious take on three friends trying to make the most of Christmas Eve

A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas: because nothing beats a stoner holiday adventure

Scrooged: a trippy modern retelling of the classic A Christmas CarolPair these with a mellow, feel-good strain like Pineapple Express or Blue Dream, and you’re all set for a night of laughter and good vibes.

2. Puff and Paint: Channel Your Inner Artist

Feeling creative this holiday season? A puff and paint session is the perfect activity for adding a bit of art and relaxation to your festive plans. Imagine gathering with a group of friends, your favorite strains within reach, and some blank canvases ready to be transformed into works of art. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or haven’t touched a paintbrush since elementary school, this activity offers a laid-back way to have fun, bond with others, and maybe even create a masterpiece.

To make it even easier, follow along with a YouTube painting tutorial. There are plenty of options, but to keep the vibe cannabis-friendly, here are a few YouTube channels that offer fun, easy-to-follow painting guides:

The Art Sherpa: Known for her step-by-step tutorials that are perfect for beginners, The Art Sherpa has a few “420-friendly” options for those looking to add a little extra creativity to their canvas.

Happy Little Trees – Bob Ross: Ok, it’s not explicitly cannabis-themed, but Bob Ross’s calm, soothing style and love of happy little trees make his tutorials a natural fit for a chilled-out painting session.

WeedTube: For a truly immersive experience, check out some WeedTube creators who combine cannabis culture with art tutorials for a laid-back, fun painting experience.

Pair this activity with an energizing strain like Jack Herer or Sour Diesel to keep your creative juices flowing. You don’t have to be Picasso to enjoy this experience—just go with the flow, have fun with it, and see where your creativity takes you!

3. Get Baked (Cookies, That is)

Holiday baking is a tradition for many, but why not take it up a notch this year? Gather your friends, get a little lifted, and dive into the ultimate baking session. From classic sugar cookies to creative cannabis-infused treats, this activity will satisfy both your munchies and your holiday cravings.

Not sure where to start? Here are a few festive recipe ideas to try:

Classic Sugar Cookies: Decorate them with holiday-themed frosting and sprinkles for a sweet twist.

Cannabis-Infused Chocolate Chip Cookies: If you’re feeling adventurous, try adding some cannabis-infused butter (cannabutter) to your recipe. Just remember to go slow and be mindful of dosages to ensure you don’t get too baked—literally.

Gingerbread Men (or Women, or Trees): Get creative with cookie shapes and frosting decorations to add some holiday flair to this classic recipe. Bonus points if you make the gingerbread figures look a little…elevated.

Pair your baking session with a strain that boosts your mood, like Girl Scout Cookies (fitting, right?) or Zkittlez. Once your treats are baked, gather around and share the goodies while listening to your favorite holiday music. It’s a sweet, festive way to spend time with friends, make new memories, and enjoy the spirit of the season.

4. Enjoy the Great Outdoors

Winter in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula is magical, and there’s no better way to embrace the beauty of the season than by heading outdoors. Bundle up, grab your favorite cannabis products, and get ready to experience the crisp air and sparkling snow in a whole new light.

There are plenty of winter activities to choose from, whether you prefer the adrenaline rush of sledding or the tranquility of snowshoeing through the forest. You can build a snowman, go on a snowy hike, or even try bird watching. No matter what you choose, adding cannabis to the mix can make the experience even more relaxing and immersive.

Try a hybrid strain like White Widow or Northern Lights to keep things balanced and enjoyable while staying active in the chilly weather. Don’t forget to hydrate and wear layers—while cannabis can make you feel warm and fuzzy inside, you’ll still need to stay cozy outside!

5. Get Your Game On: Cannabis-Friendly Board and Video games

After a day of festive fun, why not wind down with some cannabis-friendly games? Whether you prefer board games or video games, there are plenty of options that pair perfectly with a holiday toke.

If you’re into board games, try something light and humorous like Cards Against Humanity or Exploding Kittens—both of which are guaranteed to lead to laughter and bonding, especially with a little cannabis on the side. For something more immersive, try strategy games like Catan or Ticket to Ride, which will keep everyone engaged (and perhaps a bit competitive).

For video gamers, consider Mario Kart for a fun, nostalgic throwback, or dive into an adventure game like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild—the visuals alone are worth it, especially when paired with the right strain. If you prefer something a bit more chilled out, try Stardew Valley for a relaxing, laid-back vibe that pairs well with a mellow indica strain like Granddaddy Purple.

The beauty of gaming and cannabis is the ability to unwind, have fun, and get lost in the moment. So, gather your friends, roll up, and let the games begin.

Wrapping Up the Holiday Spirit

This holiday season, let cannabis be your companion for fun, creativity, and connection. Whether you’re painting masterpieces, baking sweet treats, or exploring the snowy outdoors, there’s a cannabis-friendly activity to suit every festive mood. At The Fire Station, we’re here to help you elevate your holiday experience with the right products and recommendations. So, gather your friends, light up, and make this holiday season one to remember—because when the tree’s lit, it’s your turn.

Insights From a TFS Elf: How Your Products Get From Seed to Shelf

Just like the magical journey of toys in Santa’s workshop, the cannabis products on our shelves have their own remarkable journey—beginning with a tiny seed and ending up as the high-quality products you love. We’re pulling back the curtain to show you how cannabis makes its way from seed to shelf, explaining everything from where it’s grown to how it’s tested for quality and safety before arriving at The Fire Station.

Where Cannabis is Grown in Michigan: Indoor vs. Outdoor Facilities

Michigan’s cannabis industry is booming with both indoor and outdoor cultivation sites spread across the state. Each method of growing has its own unique benets, and understanding these can give you a better appreciation for the products that ultimately hit the shelves.

Indoor Growing: Control and Precision Indoor growing facilities are ideal for controlling every variable in the cannabis cultivation process. ese highly regulated environments allow growers to maintain perfect conditions for cannabis plants, such as temperature, humidity, light cycles, and nutrient delivery. As a result, indoor-grown cannabis is often known for its consistent quality, potency, and appearance.

Michigan is home to numerous state-of-the-art indoor cultivation facilities that range from small craft operations to large-scale, high-tech grow centers. ese facilities use a variety of methods to optimize their grow cycles, including hydroponic systems (where plants grow in water rather than soil) and cutting-edge lighting setups that mimic natural sunlight. Indoor cannabis tends to be more expensive due to the higher cost of maintaining these environments, but many consumers appreciate the level of care and control that goes into producing top-shelf flower.

Outdoor Growing: Sun-Kissed & Sustainable In contrast, outdoor cannabis cultivation is as natural as it gets. Grown under the sun in Michigan’s vast agricultural areas, outdoor cannabis plants thrive in soil and are nourished by the earth’s natural elements. While outdoor grows rely more heavily on the weather, they tend to be more sustainable, requiring fewer resources like electricity and water.

Outdoor-grown cannabis often has a more natural and earthy avor prole, as the plants adapt to their environment. In Michigan, the Upper Peninsula and other rural areas with open space and fertile land have become popular spots for outdoor cannabis farms. ese farms typically harvest once a year, resulting in seasonal strains that vary from year to year depending on growing conditions.

Whether grown in a controlled indoor setting or out in the great Michigan outdoors, both methods produce high-quality cannabis that ultimately makes its way to retailers like e Fire Station. Each method has its pros and cons, and ultimately, it’s up to the grower to decide which one works best for their operation and customers.

From Harvest to Product: Drying, Curing, and Extraction

After cannabis plants have grown to maturity, it’s time for harvest—a critical step in ensuring the product’s quality. Once harvested, the growers go through a process of drying and curing to remove excess moisture and enhance the flavor, aroma, and potency.

Drying and Curing Once the cannabis is harvested, it’s typically hung upside down in a climate-controlled room to dry for a period of time. is drying process can take anywhere from a few days to two weeks, depending on the humidity and environmental conditions. Once the owers are adequately dried, they are cured in airtight containers for several weeks. is curing process allows the cannabis to fully develop its flavors and aromas, ensuring a smoother and more enjoyable smoking experience. Curing also helps to preserve the cannabinoids (like THC and CBD) and terpenes in the plant.

Extraction for Different Product Categories While some cannabis is sold as grower, much of it is processed into other product categories like concentrates, edibles, and topicals. is is where extraction comes into play.

Extraction methods involve isolating the cannabinoids and terpenes from the plant material, typically using solvents like CO2 or ethanol. is allows manufacturers to create a wide range of cannabis products, each with a different application. For example:

• Concentrates like wax, shatter, or live resin oer potent doses of THC for experienced consumers.

• Edibles use cannabis oil or butter to infuse treats like gummies, chocolates, and beverages with a consistent, measured dose of THC.

• Topicals, such as creams or balms, other localized relief for muscle pain or inflammation without the psychoactive effects of smoking or consuming cannabis.

These products are then packaged, labeled, and prepared for testing before they can be sold to retailers like the Fire Station.

Lab Testing: Ensuring Consumer Safety

Before cannabis products can be sold to consumers, they must rst pass a rigorous testing process. In Michigan, this testing is overseen by the Cannabis Regulatory Agency (CRA), which sets strict guidelines to ensure that all cannabis products meet the highest safety standards.

What Labs Test For

Cannabis labs in Michigan test for a variety of factors to ensure consumer safety, including:

• Potency Testing: Ensures the levels of THC, CBD, and other cannabinoids match what’s stated on the product label.

• Contaminant Testing: Products are screened for harmful contaminants like mold, mildew, heavy metals, and pesticides.

• Residual Solvent Testing: For concentrates and extracts, labs test to make sure no residual solvents from the extraction process remain in the final product.

These tests help ensure that the cannabis products you purchase are safe, consistent, and accurately labeled, giving you peace of mind every time you shop at The Fire Station.
